Tree Service or Arbor Service: They are not equal.

Are you looking for someone to really care for your trees and landscape or just a hack with a chainsaw who can trim or remove your trees but does not care about your property or how your lawn looks?  You should know that there are tree services in the southwest suburbs that will do anything for a quick buck.  Tree services will only trim or remove your trees.  An arbor service, on the other hand, will do whatever is best for the overall health of your entire landscape.  Your best bet is to always get an opinion from a Certified Arborist who really cares about providing quality tree care, plant care, and lawn care and wants to build a long term relationship with you.

It is also important to know that all Certified Arborists are not equal.  Yes, they have to pass the same test and keep up on the same continuing education units.  However, some are more focused on tree trimming while others focus more on plant care.  Asking a certified arborist the right questions will help you make the best choice.  Here are some things you should ask:

How did you get into this industry?

How long having you been doing this?

Why did you become a Certified Arborist?

Do I have other options?

What services do you provide?

Do you have referrals?

You should also ask to see their Certificate of Insurance- it should be an umbrella comprehensive plan- and check the dates to make sure they go through the following year.

ALWAYS get a written proposal or contract to protect yourself and your property.

Ed Ritzema is the owner and a Certified Arborist.  Ed has been a Certified Arborist for over 15 years. He has been in the tree and lawn care industry for 20 years working all aspects.  He established the business from ground zero after working for several different tree and lawn care companies. His passion is being able to provide quality and honest service to his clients to help them get the most out of their landscape.

We are located in the beautiful town of Crestwood, Illinois off of Kostner Avenue, just south of 135th street in an industrial area.  Joyce is our Director of First Impressions and does an excellent job of making sure we get all the necessary treatments and work done for all of our clients at the correct time.  Currently, we have 2 part-time employees who are pursuing educational degrees at local community colleges.  Ed shares his knowledge with his employees and oversees their work.  Ed is looking to grow the business by adding full-time employees who have a passion for learning, helping people, and working outside.  Field employees must possess a valid CDL license and be completely trustworthy.

Ed continues to attend seminars and tradeshows to increase his knowledge so he can stay abreast of new innovations in the industry and offer the best possible arbor service to his clients.  He is a member of the International Society of Arboriculture, Illinois Arborist Association, the Tree Care Industry Association, The Tinley Park Chamber of Commerce, and the Oak Forest area Chamber.  He is also an active member in Southwest Business Exchange chapter of BNI.

What Good are Trees Anyway?

Let us think back to our elementary school science classes where we learned about plants and all the different functions they perform for us.  Here are just a few:

1)      Remember the Oxygen cycle?  We breathe out Carbon dioxide, which trees and plants take in through their leaf tissue and convert back into oxygen.  This is quite an amazing process.  Remember, all trees have leaves; they just look different depending on the variety of tree- some have needles, some frons, some leaves.

2)      The leaves of trees and plants act as an air filter, filtering out certain pollutants and making our air cleaner.

3)      Why do people sit under a tree when it is hot?  Because trees provide shade and can drop the air temperature as much as 20 degrees.  Think of how big of a difference that makes when watching a game outside or doing yard work.

4)      Trees help prevent soil erosion.  The fine roots hold onto the soil particles and larger roots act as barriers to prevent the soil from washing away. The leaves soften the pounding of rains onto the soil.

5)      The roots also absorb dangerous chemicals from spills, farms, and storm water run-off.

6)      Trees make great sound barriers, as they break up sound waves from traffic and other noise creators.

7)      Trees also make great windbreakers when planted close together and interspersed with a variety of evergreen and deciduous trees.

8)      Trees add value to your real estate.  Mature trees on a property can increase your property value by up to 15% compared to properties with very small trees or none at all.

Let us come and help you choose the right trees for your property or provide quality care and service to the trees you already have.  We will take care of all your tree and lawn care needs so you can sit back and enjoy the benefits of having healthy trees and a healthy lawn.
